Ricardo Garcia is a truly eclectic guitarist - his roots lie in Flamenco, but in recent years he has explored Jazz, African music, collaborated with a sitar and tabla player Jordanian and Cambodian musicians and with Scottish traditional musicians. For 14 years he has brought a show to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe: conceived, composed and produced as an original work for the Fringe. Many of these shows have also been performed in Canada and the US: Montreal, Ottawa, San Francisco, Orlando, Toronto and Vancouver to sell out audiences and five star reviews. Flamenco con Fusion won the "Audience Choice Award" in Vancouver International Fringe Festival, September 2007. Since then Ricardo has taken shows to Ethiopia, Kenya, Zanzibar, Dar es Salaam, to Cape Town, Cambodia and Ecuador. He has worked with children (in the Bronx and New Jersey as well as childern and remote communities in Kenya, Ecuador and Cambodia - as well as for the Spanish Embassies in Kenya and Ethiopia. In 2012 Ricardo played for MTV India following his successful collaboration for the music of the Bollywood movie Tashan.
Later this year, 2015 he will take part in the Yokohama Jazz Festival with Yuichiro Tokuda in Japan.
This is an authentic Flamenco from traditional to modern, moving towards a fusion of elements from its own background (Indian, Arabic, African, South American, Caribbean ) with modern influences such as Jazz, Latin Jazz Bossa Nova, Salsa and others.
Yes! It's that time of year again! Edinburgh Festival Fringe no 15!! We are back at C Venues on Chambers St - opposite the museum, but in C-1 this year for Flamenco Global - starting on Wednesday the 5th August and running through to the 31st!
Flamenco Global is every night at 9.20pm except for two Mondays - 17th and 24th.
Flamenco for Kids is the same run - at 12.15 everyday except for those two Mondays.
Flamenco Escocia is a celebration of Scotland - Ricardo first came to this country in 1995, and has since been a regular visitor every year, playing the Fringe as a guest in 2000 and bringing his own show in 2001, and every year since! He will be featuring guests from Scotland - musicians he has met and played with - in all five performances of Flamenco Escocia. These are at varying dates and times: Sat and Sun 8th and 9th at 15.45; Tuesday 18th at 18.15; and the last weekend Sat and Sun 29th and 30th at 14.00. Don't miss this unique opportunity to hear Ricardo and his guests.
We are delighted to announce that Yuichiro Tokuda jazz saxophonist from Japan will be flying in from Tokyo to join us in Paris for a tour of France with Ricardo! The two musicians met in Jordan last year - and they hit it off musically straight away! The tour: Paris, Normandy, South of France starts June 24th and continues till July 15th - watch here for details!
